Bertie and I recently found a young galga (greyhound) in an unbearable state on the roads — abandoned and left to die. She was severely malnourished, covered in wounds, and had an old, untreated fractured jaw, likely caused by abuse.

We immediately rushed her to the vets, where she is now finally in safe hands with Estefania, who committed her life to save abandoned dogs. The little one has undergone surgery to repair what could be done of her old fracture. Sadly, her body is still very fragile, and she is currently struggling with liver complications as a result of extreme neglect and stress.

Despite everything she has endured, this little soul wants to live. Alma is fighting every day — she is trying to eat, however little she can, and she is showing us just how strong her will to survive is.

Alma is not just one dog. She represents the thousands of galgos abandoned every year in Spain after hunting season — victims of neglect and cruelty, and of a system that continues to fail them.

Right now, she is receiving treatment in a hospital in Madrid, and her recovery will be long, delicate, and costly.

The funds raised will go directly towards Alma’s ongoing veterinary care and recovery. This includes her hospitalisation in Madrid, specialist treatment, surgery and post-operative care for her fractured jaw, medication, and urgent support for her liver complications. The funds will also help cover diagnostic tests, follow-up appointments, pain management, and any additional treatment she may need as she continues to recover from severe neglect and malnutrition. Every contribution will go entirely towards giving Alma the best possible chance to heal, regain her strength, and finally experience safety and care.
